Queensland Philanthropic Orchestra

As well as the concerts and work of our member bands, The Brisbane Metropolitan Bands Association is also proud to promote other great community music events – and here is a really, really exciting one! On Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th of September the Queensland Philanthropic Orchestra will be performing two charity concerts to raise money for the Mater Medical Research Institute.

Philanthropic Orchestra

The Queensland Philanthropic Orchestra was formed in 2007. Drawn from all walks of life, these passionate and volunteer musicians use their energy and talents to, as their mission statement says,  “Give Back More than Music” to the community. Each year with only THREE (that’s right, three!) rehearsals they put together an exciting and professional concert where every cent of ticket sales is donated to an established Queensland based charity – this year the MMRI.

MMRI conducts research in the areas of prostate, ovarian, lung and colorectal cancer, leukaemia, diabetes, heart attack, stroke, bowel disease and psoriais through specialised programs. MMRI is partner of the Translational Research Institute and the Federal Government’s Prostate Cancer Research Centre.

The Queensland Philanthropic Orchestra now have their own Facebook page where you can keep up with their latest activities and watch videos of the orchestra in action – like this clip of Rhapsody in Blue from their 2008 concert.
